Gambiered silk (xiangyunsha) is a traditional Chinese silk weave whose threads are dyed with the juice of the shuliang plant, then mud-mordanted and finished in sunlight — a fabric whose luster deepens and expression evolves with use. On its black ground we have applied a hand-drawn crackle pattern and embroidered a single magnolia, its petals shading from pale pink into purple.
